Barbie is a fashion doll manufactured by the American toy company Mattel, Inc. and launched in March 1959. American businesswoman Ruth Handler is credited with the creation of the doll using a German doll called Bild Lilli as her inspiration.

Barbie made her Macy's Parade debut in 1986, when Mattel debuted a brand-new float called "Barbie and the Rockers". The float featured Barbie and her band, The Rockers, performing on top of a star-based float. All together, there are more than 50 larger than life stars painted many colors. This float appeared until the 1991 parade, when it became retired.

Barbie returned to the Macy's Parade in 2004, this time, promoting her new movie, Barbie: The Princess and the Pauper. The float featured Barbie's palace from the movie, with Barbie and her respective Prince on the float with her. Decorative foliage also added to the decoration of the float. This float would then be recycled for the next few Barbie floats in the coming years.

The Barbie float reappeared in 2005. This time, it promoted the movie, Barbie and The Magic of Pegasus. Not much changed from the previous float, other than a sculpted Pegasus statue being added on the float.

The Barbie float once again appeared in 2006, promoting the new movie, Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses. The float was painted different colors, with the castle being changed to a brown and blue color scheme. On this float, joining Barbie and her prince, are the 12 Dancing Princesses.

The float made its final appearance in 2007, to promote the movie Barbie and the Island Princess. This float had the base painted to give the palace a island-like theme. Palm trees and island foliage was added to make the float look like an island as well.
