Curious George is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the popular children's book series written by H. A. Rey and Margret Rey. He is a brown monkey who is brought from his home in Africa by a man in a yellow hat, to live with him in a giant city. Since his first book was published in 1941, he has expanded to television and film.

History with the Macy's Parade

George only appeared in the 2001 parade, and tied in with a plush version of the balloon available exclusively at Macy's stores. After 2001, his balloon was retired. Despite being a one-shot character, however, George appeared in walk-around form on the "85th Parade Superstars" float in 2011, along with many other characters with balloons that had been retired.
